What you need before you start a 4 pillar funding request
A 4 pillar funding request goes faster when you have your ID details, income information, bank account and routing numbers, and a clear loan amount ready before you open the form.
Gather these items first:
- Personal details. Your legal name, date of birth, home address, email and phone number.
- Identification. A Social Security number and a valid government-issued ID for lender verification.
- Income. Your employer or income source, how often you are paid and your monthly take-home amount.
- Bank account. An active checking account in your name, where a lender can deposit funds and set up payments.
- Amount and purpose. The exact amount you need, from $500 to $5,000, and what the personal loan is for, such as a car repair or past-due utility bill.
Lenders generally look for applicants who are at least 18, U.S. residents with a steady source of income and an active bank account. Our eligibility page explains these common requirements in more detail.
The four steps explained
The request process has four steps: you submit one form, your request is matched with lenders in our network, you review any offer that comes back, and the lender you choose sends the funds after approval.
Submit your request
The form asks for the information listed above and takes about five minutes. Use your real income figures. Lenders verify income later, and an overstated number can lead to a declined personal loan after you have already spent time on it.
Get matched
We share your request with lenders in our network whose criteria may fit your amount, state and credit profile. We are a connector, not a lender, so we do not set rates, terms or approval decisions.
Review your offer
If a lender can work with you, you will see an offer or be directed to the lender's site to view one. Every offer should show the APR, any fees, the term, the monthly payment and the total amount you will repay.
Receive funds from the lender
If you accept, the lender may ask for documents such as pay stubs or a bank statement. After final approval, funds are often deposited as soon as the next business day, though timing depends on the lender and your bank. Read a fuller walk-through on our how it works page.
What happens after you submit
After you submit, a soft credit check may be used to match your request, lenders in our network decide whether to make an offer, and a lender may run a hard inquiry only if you choose to move ahead with its offer.
A soft credit check lets lenders see a summary of your credit without affecting your score. It helps them decide whether to respond and what range of terms might fit. If a lender makes an offer and you continue, that lender may run a hard credit inquiry before final approval. A hard inquiry can lower a score by a few points for a short time.
You may hear from a lender by email, by phone or on screen right after you submit. Some requests receive more than one offer, some receive one and some receive none. The number of offers depends on your credit, income, requested amount and state, and approval is never guaranteed.
How to compare a personal loan offer
Compare any personal loan offer by its APR, origination fee, monthly payment, term and total repayment, and make sure the amount deposited after fees still covers what you need.
Use this checklist when an offer arrives:
- APR. The APR includes interest and certain fees, so it is the best single number for comparing offers. Lenders in personal-loan markets generally quote APRs from about 6% to 35.99%.
- Fees. Ask whether an origination fee is deducted from the loan. A 5% fee on $2,000 means about $1,900 reaches your account.
- Payment and term. For reference, $2,000 over 12 months at 24.99% APR, fixed rate and no fees, is about $190.08 a month and $2,280.96 in total, an estimate.
- Total repayment. Compare the full amount you will repay, not only the payment.
- Prepayment. Check for a prepayment penalty if you plan to pay early.
Our rates page shows how APR and term affect cost across common loan sizes, and the payment calculator can help you test a few scenarios before you sign.
Privacy and security of your request
Your 4 pillar funding request is sent over an encrypted connection and shared only with lenders and service partners involved in reviewing your request, as described in our privacy policy.
The form uses standard encryption to protect the details you enter, such as your Social Security number and bank information. We use your information to match your request and to meet legal and security obligations. We do not charge you to use the request form, and you choose whether to share anything further with a lender.
You can read exactly how information is collected, used and shared in our privacy policy. Never send loan documents or payments to anyone who contacts you claiming to represent our service and asking for an upfront fee. Lenders deduct any fees from proceeds or add them to the balance, and they disclose them in writing.
If no offer appears
If no offer appears, lenders in our network could not match your current request, often because of the amount, state, income or credit profile, and you can adjust the request later or explore other options.
A missing offer is not a judgment on you. Common reasons include a requested amount that is too high for your income, a recent drop in your credit score, a state where fewer lenders operate or income that could not be confirmed. A few steps may help:
- Request a smaller amount. A $1,000 personal loan may be easier to match than $3,000.
- Lower your debt-to-income ratio. Paying down a card balance before requesting again can help.
- Check your credit reports. Dispute errors that may be pulling your score down.
- Consider a credit union or a cosigner. Some lenders accept a cosigner with stronger credit.
You can submit a new 4 pillar funding request whenever your situation changes. Many people also read 4 pillar funding reviews and 4pillar funding guides first, then come back to the form ready to compare personal loans side by side. Each 4pillar funding request is free, and there is no limit on how many times you can check for offers.
Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Does submitting the request form hurt my credit score?
Submitting a request may involve a soft credit check, which does not affect your credit score. If you choose to move forward with a lender's offer, that lender may run a hard inquiry before final approval, which can lower your score by a few points for a short time.
How long does it take to get money after I submit a request?
Timing depends on the lender. Many lenders send an offer within minutes to a day, and funds often arrive as soon as the next business day after you sign and complete verification. Requests for extra documents, weekends and bank holidays can add time.
What if I change my mind after receiving an offer?
You can simply decline or ignore the offer, because a request creates no obligation. Once you sign a lender's loan agreement, the lender's terms apply, so read the cancellation and prepayment sections before you sign.
